Sensor to Image GigE Vision IP Core for FPGA now supports GenDC

GenDC (standing for Generic Data Container) defines a transport media-independent data description that allows devices such as cameras or frame grabbers to send and receive almost any form of imaging data (1D, 2D, 3D, multi-spectral, metadata, …), using a uniform and standard data description. GenDC completes the GenICam (Generic Interface for Cameras) family of modules that control data exchanges between imaging devices and hosts. The upcoming version 2.2 of the GigE Vision standard will include GenDC support.
The GenDC 1.0.0 specification can be found on the EMVA website.
GenDC support has been added as an option to the latest version of Sensor to Image GigE Vision IP Core for FPGA and is available now. Please contact us for more information.

Performance improvement of the Sensor to Image GigE Vision IP Core Framebuffer management
The framebuffer IP is the component of the GigE Vision IP Core managing the data buffer in external memory. This component has recently been updated to support higher data rates:
  • The data widths are now 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 or 1024 bits towards the external memory controller using standard AXI4 interface (up from only 32 and 64 bits)
  • The output packet size does not need to be multiple of the burst length anymore, but only a multiple of the data width, leading to a more flexible GigE packet size
  • The new framebuffer IP uses the standard AXI4-Lite control interface
  • The support of wider data widths improves the usage of the available physical memory bandwidth.
These improvements are useful for applications writing data at very high speed and streaming at lower speed, like recording and scanning applications.
Due to wider data widths the framebuffer is ready for upcoming Ethernet speeds like 25 and 40 Gbps.
